Grammy-winning artist Mandisa already has a busy spring ahead of her, but the American Idol alum will find time to squeeze in a trip to Troy later this year.
The double-Grammy winner and five-time nominee will perform at historic Hobart Arena April 6 as part of her co-headlining tour with Brandon Heath.
She won a pair of coveted Gramophone trophies Jan. 26 at the annual awards show by winning Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and Best Contemporary Christian Music Song for her No. 1 hit “Overcomer.” “I know I keep saying this, but whose life is this?” Mandisa said in a statement released by her publicist. “I am utterly shocked and thankful for the honors the academy awarded myself and the songwriters.”
Hobart Arena Director Ken Siler said fans can expect an entertaining show from Mandisa, who also will be on tour later this year with Skillet, Third Day and six-time Grammy winner Toby Mac.
“Having Mandisa, along with Brandon Heath, will make this a great show, especially after she has just received two Grammy Awards,” he said. “All of the Christian acts we have had here have done very well. I expect the same for this show” A finalist on Season 5 of American Idol, Mandisa has sold close to a million records and performed on numerous television shows - Good Morning America, KATIE, Fox & Friends, The Today Show and LIVE! With Regis and Kelly. She also helped promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month by singing the National Anthem prior to an NFL football game televised on the NFL Network.
Heath, meanwhile, will be back for a second time at Hobart, having opened for Toby Mac in 2011.
“We are very pleased to have Brandon Heath return to Hobart Arena. He opened for Toby Mac in February 2011, and was very well received,” Siler said. Tickets are on sale at the Hobart Arena box office, by phone at 339-2911, or on the arena website at www.hobartarena.com.
