PIQUA — For the second consecutive day, a motorist has lost their life on a Miami County roadway.

A crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck at the intersection of State Route 66 and West Miami-Shelby Road at 4:57 a.m. Wednesday resulted in the death of Joseph Stanley, 24, 0f Piqua, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the 2008 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, James E. Westfall Jr., 58, of Bradford, was not injured but was transported to the hospital by medic complaining of chest pains, reports said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on Miami-Shelby Road and had stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 66. The Ford pick-up truck then proceeded eastbound into the intersection and into the path of the 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was northbound on State Route 66.

Stanley was not wearing a motorcycle helmet. Westfall was wearing a seatbelt. Speed does not appear to be a factor, according to reports.

Dr. Steve Huffman, Miami County coroner, ordered Mr. Stanley’s remains to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy.

Miami County crash re-constructionists responded to process the scene and investigate the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

State Route 66 was closed for approximately two hours.
