Today

• OPENING RECEPTION: An opening reception will be held from5-6:45 p.m. at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, Troy, for the exhibit “Arte Cubano 2015,” a special art studio exhibition of Cuban art, including contemporary paintings from Baracoa, Cuba. Master artist and instructor Guillermo Orlando Piedra Labañino leads this group of talented artists in promoting Baracoan culture in the communities surrounding Baracoa. The exhibit will be open through April 30.

• TAX-AIDE: Tax-Aide will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Troy-Miami County Public Library. No appointment is necessary, and people will be seen on a first come, first served basis. All 2015 taxes are needed.

• FRIDAY DINNERS: The Covington VFW Post 4235, 73 N. High St., will offer dinners, including broasted chicken, New York strip steaks, fish and shrimp and a variety of sandwiches from 5-8 p.m.

• FISH AND SHRIMP: Fish and shrimp will be offered at 6 p.m. at the Troy Fish & Game.

• SOUPER WALK: The Miami County Park District will hold its Souper-Walk program at 7 p.m. at Lost Creek Reserve, 2385 E. State Route 41, Troy. Enjoy a guided, nighttime hike through the woods followed by a warm crackling fire and hot cup of homemade soup. Hikers are encouraged to bring a can of soup for donation to a local food pantry. Stay warm – remember to layer up before you head out. Pre-registration requested. • FISH FRY: St. Mary Parish will offer a Lenten fish fry from 5-7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Piqua Catholic School, 503 W. North St. The meal consists of all the fish (deep fried or baked) you can eat along with french fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw or applesauce, roll and coffee. Soft drinks and desserts are available for an additional charge. Carry-outs are also available. Special pricing is available for seniors and those 12 and under.

• HAM: The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 586, Tipp City, will serve ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, salad and dessert for $8 beginning at 6 p.m.

• FISH FRY: St. Teresa Catholic Church, 6925 W. U.S. Route 36, Covington, will have a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. The cost is $7 and includes coffee. Pop and desserts will be extra.

• DRAMA CLUB: The Newton High School Drama Club is performing “The Wizard of Oz” (Young Performers Edition) at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $5 at the door.

Saturday

• FREE SKATE: The Troy Skating Club will host a free community appreciation public skate from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Hobart Arena, Troy. Skate rental is $2.50.

• PIZZA AND PALS: Pizza and Pals, a fundraiser to benefit the Miami County Affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Concord Elementary School, 3145 W. State Route 718, Troy. Children will be able to interact with costumed characters including Pete the Cat, Elephant & Piggie, Ladybug Girl and Llama, Llama. • FISH FRY: The annual Piqua Indians baseball fish fry and auction fundraiser will be held at the Piqua VFW, North County Road 25-A, Piqua. Food will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m. Carry-outs will be available and a 50/50 drawing and raffles will be held during the auction. • LEGO CLUB: A new LEGO Mania Club will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon at the Milton-Union Public Library to build with LEGO. The theme is “Lego My LEGO” where the library will serve Lego waffles and build with LEGO afterwards.

• LEAVE NO TRACE: The Miami County Park District in partnership with Outdoor Adventure Connections will hold an overnight, two-day Leave No Trace training program on March 11 and 12 at Lost Creek Reserve, 2385 E. State Route 41, Troy. Participants will learn about the seven principles of back country Leave No Trace. • KARAOKE: The Tipp City American Legion Post 586 will host karaoke from 7 p.m. to close.

• CRAFTS: The Tipp City Seniors will eat out at Ruby Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. A Euchre party will begin at 6:30 p.m.

• WRESTLING: Dynamic Pro Wrestling will offer its 14th anniversary show, with seven matches, at 7:30 p.m. at the Miami County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 15. Call (937) 640-2691 to reserve seats.

• BREAKFAST: The Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ will hold a Spring Forward Pancake & Sausage Breakfast from 8-1 a.m. Donations will be accepted for the benefit of the Organ Repair Fund. • PANCAKE DAY: The Covington Noon Optimist/Kiwanis 52nd annual Pancake Day will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covington K-8 School cafeteria. Tickets may be purchased at the door, and are $7 for adults and $4 for children under ten. Included in the meal is all-you-can-eat pancakes and coffee, and a serving of whole hog sausage, applesauce, juice or milk.

• SCHOLARSHIP DINNER: Olivet Chapter No. 538 and Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 226 will offer its fifth annual scholarship dinner 4-6 p.m. at the Christiansburg Masonic Temple, 203 N. Main St. Proceeds will go to provide one scholarship to the fifth graduating senior from Graham High School and one from Miami East High School. Meals will be a free will offering.

• BREAKFAST: Breakfast is open to the public at the Tipp City American Legion Post 586. Serving will be from 8-11 a.m. A full breakfast is made to order for $7, children under 10 eat for $3.

• BUDDY READING: Buddy reading at the Milton-Union Public Library provides a volunteer with whom a student can read. The goal is to help students reach their A.R. goals and practice reading. An adult or high school student will be able to help your child practice reading. The program will be every Monday until the end of the school year.

• CUPCAKES: Guests can sign up for one of two Seuss Cupcake Decorating classes at the Piqua Public Library. Teens will meet from 4-5:30 p.m., and then an all-ages session will be held from 6-8 p.m. You must register in advance for these sessions, space is limited. • MOMS & TOTS: The Miami County Park District will hold its “Trailing Moms & Tots” program from 10 a.m. to noon at Charleston Falls Preserve, 2535 Ross Rd. south of Tipp City. This program is for expectant mothers, mothers and tots 0 to five years of age. Participants can socialize, play and exercise during this walk. There may even be craft time. Be sure to dress for the weather. • BOARD MEETING: The Tipp City Park Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. in the Tipp City Government Center, 260 S. Garber Drive, Tipp City.

• SALAD AND POTATOES: The Tipp City American Legion Post 586 will offer a salad bar for $3.50 or a potato bar for $3.50 or both for just $6. Serving begins at 6 p.m.

• DEMOCRATIC WOMEN: The Miami County Democratic Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Troy-Miami Public Library. The theme for the evening’s meeting is “Marching Together in Blue.” Wear your blue and bring a bathroom tissue, facial tissue or other item to donate to the Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County. Tuesday

• ADVISORY BOARD: Teens looking for a volunteer opportunity can join others the Troy-Miami County Library’s Teen Advisory Board. The board meets once a month at 6:30 p.m. at the Troy library; TAB members assist with library projects, children’s programs, and can earn community service hours for attending meetings and assisting with library events. • EASTER CRAFT: The March Pinterest Craft is an Easter craft jar at the Milton-Union Public Library. Taking simple glass jars participants will use pastel paint to color the jars, leaving a bunny outline. These can be used for candy or a scented candle. The craft will be at 6 p.m.

• CARRY-IN: Tipp City American Legion Post 586 members, family and friends are welcome to come to a carry-in dinner at 6 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share.

• CRAFTS: The Tipp City Seniors members and guests will be offered crafts and quilting at 9 a.m. at 320 S. First St., Tipp City.

• BLOOD DRIVE: Fletcher United Methodist Church will help replenish the spring blood supply and celebrate the week of St. Patrick’s Day by hosting a community blood drive from 3-7 p.m. at 205 S. Walnut St. Everyone who registers to donate will receive the Community Blood Center “Kiss Me — I Donate Blood” St. Patrick’s Day T-shirt. • LUNCH: The Piqua Central class of 1961 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. at Heck Yeah’s on South County Road 25-A. Participants will order off the menu so no reservations are required. Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend.

• HOME SCHOOL NATURE CLUB: Sign-up your home schooled student afternoon of discovery from 2-4 p.m. at Brukner Nature Center. Staff naturalists have developed hands-on educational lesson plans, using live wildlife and outdoor exploration. The fee is $2.50 for BNC members and $5 for non-members. Payment is due at time of registration (cash or check). Deadline for registration is the Monday prior to each program. Topic for March is “Salamander Sleuths!”

• BIRDSLEUTH WORKSHOP: Home school parents can join staff at Brukner Nature Center from 9:45-11:15 a.m. or 2:15-3:45 p.m. for a workshop. BNC is partnering with Cornel Lab of Ornithology to bring the BirdSleuth Workshop to all interested home school parents. Staff will have engaging science lessons by local birds. The workshop includes all materials and a free window bird feeder provided by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and BirdSleuth K-12. Attract feeder birds to your home, a great first step toward getting children outside observing and learning. The cost is $5 per parent (cash or check).

Bring your children to learn about these great authors and check out their books from the children’s collection.

• KIWANIS: The Kiwanis of Troy will welcome Ken Siler, director of recreation for the city of Troy. Siler will give an update on Hobart Arena and the upcoming events. The meeting will be held at Troy Country Club at noon.

• SLIDERS: John’s sliders will be offered at the Tipp City American Legion Post 586, two sliders with toppings and chips for $2, beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy “happy hour” from 4-7 p.m.

• WOMEN’S CONNECTION: The Troy-Tipp Women’s Connection will meet at the Troy Country Club . The theme for the luncheon is “Our Invisible Friend.” The feature is Bruce Bodo of the Lamp Shop in Troy, and music will be presented by Traci Perkins of Greenville. The speaker will be Nevehya Laturno of Blue Field, Mich. Lunch is $17 inclusive and reservations can be made by calling Nancy at 339-7859 or Joan at 335-3001. • MY BOOK AND ME: My Book and Me is a program where kids from kindergarten and up get to create their own books with illustrations. The program will take place every Thursday night in March at 6:30 p.m. at the Milton-Union Public Library. Each week a new theme and writing prompt will be presented. At the end of the month each student’s five short stories will be compiled, bound together in a book, and put on display to share with the community in April.

• STORY TIME: Every Thursday morning in March, the Children’s Department story time of the Piqua Public Library, for children 5 and younger, will have a Seuss-theme. Story time is held at 10:30 a.m., with children divided into infant to 36 months and 3-5 years age groups.

• SLOPPY JOES: The Tipp City American Legion Auxiliary Unit 586 will be serving sloppy joe sandwiches with chips for $4 starting at 6 p.m. Try your luck at Euchre beginning at 7 p.m. just $5.

• LUNCHEON: The Tipp City Seniors members and guests will have a carry-in luncheon at noon at 320 S. First St., Tipp City. Blood pressure checks will begin at 11 a.m. Entertainment will be “Forgotten Towns” with Doug Christian.

• HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Troy Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St., Troy. Society president Judy Deeter will present a program titled “The Market Report: Stories from Troy’s Grocery Store History.” Deeter’s presentation will feature stories about Troy’s long ago grocery stores and their owners, particularly those doing business in the late 19th and early 20th century. The program is free and open to the public.

• SPEAKER: Tim Gaffney, author of “The Dayton Flight Factory,” will be sharing content from his book as well as the role of the factory in the Aviation Heritage Area at 7 p.m. at the WACO Air Museum, 1865 S. County Road 25-A, Troy.

• ART WORKSHOP: The Oakes-Beitman Library staff will explore messy art with music at 6:30 p.m. at 12 N. Main St., Pleasant Hill. Motivate your child’s imagination and self-expression with this fun workshop. This program is for ages 3 to school age and will be limited to 20 children, registration is required. • MEETING: The Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority Board will meet at 8 a.m. at 1695 Troy-Sidney Road, Troy.

March 17-18

• HOSTA SYMPOSIUM: The Great Lakes Region Hosta Society will present Hosta College 2017: A Garden Symposium at the Upper Valley Career Center, Piqua. This is a weekend of learning with a Friday night auction plus sales of plants, tools and books. On Saturday, more than 70 classes will be offered.
