TROY — On Sunday, Dec. 10, while celebrating his 96th birthday at Hospice Unit at Upper Valley Medical Center, Melvin Evenden as surprised with presentations of two certificates of appreciation and a Hospice Veterans Partnership of Ohio pin to honor his Army service during World War II.

Some family members were present to help him celebrate his birthday.

Mel continues to be active at the Troy Senior Citizen Center and attends St. Patrick Church in Troy.
