The place of John's birth is unknown, however he was living in Miami
County Ohio at the time he applied for pension in 1820. He is buried in
New Carlisle Cemetery.
He was a private in The Virginia Line, enlisting on 1 Sept 1777 in
Morrison County New Jersey, in a Regiment of Horse from Virginia, commanded
by Captain Harrison. He also served in a Regiment of Horse under General
Sumpter until August 1780 when he was made prisoner at Rocky Ford by Colonel
Tarleton and was later released and returned home. He was in the battles
of Brandywine and Germantown.
