John Gerard
1756-1829
Gerard was born during 1756 in Virginia and was one of the first
settlers of Miami County Ohio, arriving at Dutch-Station (now Staunton)
by 1799. He was one of the first Assocuate Judges in Miami County, serving
from 1807-1815. He pentioned from Miami County Ohio but then moved to Hamilton
County where he died and is buried during 1829.
He served in the Virginia Line, enlisted at Pittsburg in the 12th
Virginia Regiment under Colonel James Woods. He was in the battles of Brandywine,
Germantown, and at valley Forge in December 1777, when he re-enlisted in
Cononel Baylor's 3ed Regiment of Light Dragoons. He was taken prisoner
at Tappan New York in 1778, was exchanged and rejoined his regiment. He
was discharged during 1780 in South Carolina.
