Abraham Hathaway
1747-1831
He was born in Morristown New Jersey, and moved to Washington County
Pennsylvania prior to joining the Militia. He came to what is now Miami
County Ohio in 1799 and settled at Dutch Station (now Staunton). He died
in 1831 and is buried in Raper Chapel Cemetery on land he entered 30 Dec
1805 by land patent that date. His obiginal gravestone is still there along
with a new marker provided by the government.
He served in the Washington County Pennsylvania Militia, 1st Battalion
in Captin John Miller's Company. This company was under Colonel William
Crawford. hathaway was a survivor of the andusky Expedition of 1782 when
Crawford was burned at the stake by the Indiana.
Hathaway also served for 15 years in service for the government as
a spy amoung the Indians.
