CAMPBELL, JOHN - The long and trying sufferings of John Campbell of North Elm street, one of Troy's oldest and most esteemed residents, were brought to a close Friday afternoon about 1 o'clock, and he passed to the great beyond.  Mr. Campbell had been confined to his bed for the past five months, suffering from the infirmities of his advanced age and hardening of the arteries.  Deceased was 83 years of age, and in his earlier days led an active and useful life and lived in such a manner that he commanded the respect of the entire community, nearly all his long years being passed as a resident of Troy.  Mr. Campbell was twice married and is survived by his second wife and three sons, William Campbell of Troy, John Campbell of Dayton, and Jacob Campbell of California.  Alva and Otho Campbell of this city are grandsons.  Funeral services were held at the late residence of the deceased Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Etter of the First Christian church.  Interment in Riverside cemetery.
