Elizabeth
TownshipElizabeth Township was formed in July 1807. It borders
Clark County on the east. The Great Miami River flows through the township.
No actual settlement was made within the township until 1800. Michael Carver
moved from Staunton Township and purchased a half-section of land from
John Cleves Symmes at a rate of $2.50 per acre. Benjamin and Christopher
Knoop also established settlements during the same time period.
Miami City (Alcony), only village in the township, was platted in 1858.
It is located on the Troy-Springfield Pike and had formerly served as a
stagecoach stop on that route. Knoop Children's Home, opened in 1879, was
located in the western part of the township.
