The Troy Strawberry Festival has announced the 2009 Troy Strawberry Festival theme and logo.
The theme will be "Dance to the Music," and was selected by Becky Pappas, the 2009 Strawberry Festival general chairwoman.
The festival theme represents Pappas' involvement in dance and music. She has danced for more than 13 years with Tammy's School of Dance and assists in teaching dance. Pappas also has been involved with many local organizations. She has been the chairperson of the Festival of Nations for 11 years, president of the Troy High School Soccer parents organization, president of the Troy Soccer Club for five years, board member of Teen Leadership Troy, cChairperson of registration for the Troy Soccer Tournament and a Strawberry Festival representative for the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce.
"I am honored and privileged to be selected as this year's festival chairwoman. I am excited to share my love of music and dance with others with this year's theme," Pappas said. "We have a new event - a chess tournament and a 'back by popular demand" event - the road rally. I have a great committee and am looking forward to working with each of them to offer a wonderful event for the festival goers."
Pappas resides in Troy with her husband, David, and their two children, Matt and Michelle, who also are involved with local soccer programs.
Pappas said selecting the theme was a difficult decision for her, because of her diverse interests with many organizations and activities.
The strawberry featured in the logo is from the Troy Strawberry Festival Soccer Tournament, and the dancing figure and music notes note Pappas' passion.
She works for the Troy City Schools as a treasurer's assistant.
The festival dates are June 6-7, 2009.
The festival began 33 years ago as a means for local non-profit clubs and organizations to raise funds for their endeavors and remains the mission of the Troy Strawberry Festival today. This year the local non- profit groups were able to raise more than $200,000 for their endeavors
