TIPP CITY — At a special meeting Monday morning, the Tipp City school board approved a contract with the Tipp City Education Association.
The three year contract includes retroactive step increases, cost of living adjustments, and outlines the association’s rights.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement after many months of work and we look forward to continuing to work with our great staff supporting our students in their success,” Superintendent Gretta Kumpf said.
For this school year, the teachers will receive one step increase, a 2 percent cost of living increase, and for those who worked in the district for the entirety of the 2010-11 school year, a retroactive step increase.
Teachers will be awarded the same increases in the 2016-17 school year, with teachers who worked the full 2011-12 school year receiving a retroactive step increase.
In 2017-18, there will be no cost of living increase, but teachers will receive a step increase. The contract also includes the option of re-opening negotiations that year.
Treasurer David Stevens estimated that the cost of this contract will be $3,026,979 over the next three years.
In addition to salary and benefits, the contract also outlines management rights, teacher association rights, grievance procedures, evaluations, and working conditions.
Members of TCEA voted on May 5 to ratify the agreement. The association was formed in 2015 and has been involved in contract negotiations with the board since last July. This is the district’s first union contract in 42 years.
“For Tipp teachers, these negotiations have always been about maintaining the integrity of our profession, being responsible to the community we serve and ensuring the stability of our excellent public schools.” TCEA President Heather Yunker said in a written statement. “Having a contract ensures we’ll continue to achieve those goals.”
