MIAMI COUNTY — During their meeting Thursday, the Miami County Commissioners approved purchases and discussed grant programs.
The board approved the purchase of telecommunication equipment for the Hobart Center for County Government. This equipment is a telecommunication card that allows the analog phone system to convert data that allows for IP phone compatibility. The cost of this purchase is not to exceed $5,398.
Two GPS tracking units will be purchase for vans owned by the county animal shelter. The cost of these units will be $39 per van per month, for a period of 36 months.
In addition, the board also authorized the county’s Emergency Management Agency to make a request for funding to purchase radios. This request is a joint application with Montgomery County for Federal Homeland Security grant funding.
Miami County is requesting the funds to purchase six portable radios with lapel microphones and batteries, at a cost of $21,686. No matching funds are required from the county.
As the official fiscal agent for the region, Montgomery County will have guardianship over the equipment, but will transfer it to Miami County for use.
The commissioners also held the second of two Community Development Block Grant allocation hearings. There were no citizen comments.
According to Dan Suerdick of the Department of Development, only two communities submitted proposals for projects, West Milton and Bradford.
The county will undertake water facilities improvements in Bradford, as well as sidewalk improvements, fair housing services, and general administration in West Milton.
The county is eligible for $112,000 through the CDBG program, which is a 4.6 percent increase in these funds from 2015, Suerdick said.
