TROY — The Troy City Schools Board of Education on Thursday morning held a special meeting to approve the district’s new assistant superintendent and also named its new high school principal.

Jeremy Miller was approved to enter into a two-year contract as the district’s assistant superintendent beginning Aug. 1.

Miller has served as the director of curriculum instruction and assessment for Centerville City Schools since July 2013. His salary will be $127,000 per year, according to board office officials.

Prior to that position, Miller served as a principal at Dr. John Hole Elementary School from 2004-2013 within the Centerville City Schools district. He also served as a principal at Simon Kenton Elementary in the Springfield City Schools district. Other experience includes being a third-grade teacher at Dayton City Schools, fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Kettering City Schools and other principal positions within the Springfield City Schools district.

The board approved to seek an assistant superintendent position in April. The position has been vacant since Superintendent Eric Herman was tapped as interim superintendent in 2010 before being hired full-time.

Katherine Weaver also was approved to be named Troy High School’s principal on Thursday. Weaver’s two-year contract is effective Aug. 1.

Weaver has served as the assistant principal at the high school for the past two years. She first came to the district in 2005 as a sixth-grade social studies and language arts teacher. She served as Kyle Elementary School’s principal in 2011 before moving to the high school administration office. Former Troy High School Principal Bill Overla recently resigned from the district to take a position at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center.

The board also approved to apply for the Active Planning Process with the Ohio School Facilities Commission Classroom Facilities Assistance Program. The program is pending OSFCCF approval for the 2016-2017 year.
