Race to remember, raise funds
PIQUA — An annual 5K, in honor of Piqua High School student Cameron Forror, who passed away Sept. 5, 2008, from complications after surgery, is set for September.
With his complications, the Forror family was granted an all-expenses paid trip to Disney World in June 2006. A nurse from Dayton Children’s Hospital is the one that opened the door for the trip to happen. The family decided after he passed away to give back to the organization that sponsored the family’s entire trip, so they started the Cameron’s Smile 5K in 2009.
All proceeds go to A Special Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children from local counties that have life-threatening illnesses.
The event this year is at 2 p.m. Sept. 4, with registration starting at 1 p.m. at Edison Community College in parking lot 4. There will be door prizes and bikes and a pallet cooler handmade by one if the race’s sponsors for raffle. The cost is $25.
