TROY — A South Bend, Ind. man died from self-inflicted injuries following a disturbance call at the Motel 6 on Dorset Road Tuesday morning.
According to the report, around 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the motel on a report that a man had jumped through a glass window.
James Hurst, 26, was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to Capt. Joe Long, Troy Police Department officers arrived at the scene and found Hurst wielding a large piece of the broken glass window and cutting himself. Officers attempted to subdue Hurst by Tasing him, but Hurst continued to injure himself in the neck with the glass until he lost consciousness.
Long said evidence of drug activity was found inside the motel room. Witnesses at the scene said Hurst “had a bad day” and had been drinking prior to the incident.
Hurst was a Hobart Welding Institute of Technology student, according to authorities.
An investigation is still pending.
