Tire recycling event set

TROY — Miami County has announced this year’s Tire Recycling Day as 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at the Miami County Fairgrounds, 1650 N. County Road 25-A, Troy.

Individuals must register the number of tires, set a drop off time and make payment for those dropped off (only cash/checks accepted) before May 12 at the Miami Soil & Water Conservation District office, 1330 N. County Road 25-A in Troy. Registration opens April 12.

On May 17, only those registered will be permitted in through the Harrison Street entrance of the fairgrounds at their appointed time to drop off tires (please remove all rims). An estimated 1,600 to 2,000 tires will be collected.

No tires will be accepted from junk yards, garages, auto repair shops or tire, automobile, truck and farm-equipment dealerships, including motorcycle/ATV repair shops or dealerships.

The price will be 50 cents per tire for passenger tires up to 17 inches and $5 per tire for farm or semi tires. Remove all rims.

Miami East FFA students and other volunteers will be on hand to unload vehicles.

Computer workshops upcoming

PIQUA — Upper Valley Career Center Adult Division will be offering a variety of computer workshops through hands-on, instructor-led training from beginner (Level 1) through advanced (Level 3). The workshops are intended to help individuals brush up on existing skills and master new ones.

“The instructor-led workshops combine helpful visual aids, hands-on exercises, take-home reference materials, and time to discuss how concepts can be applied in real-world scenarios,” said workshop coordinator Roger Fulk.

Class offerings include Microsoft Excel 2013, Levels 1-3; Microsoft Word 2013, Levels 2 and 3; Microsoft PowerPoint 2013; and Windows 10. The workshops will run on various dates and times throughout the months of March, April, May and June. All classes will be held at the Adult Technology Center in Piqua.

Hands-on workshops are also available for in-house training at business locations. Workshops can be designed around employer’s specific needs. Players to stage show

TIPP CITY — The Tipp City Players will be hosting a dessert theater performing the hilarious farce “Lend Me A Tenor,” on March 24-26 at the Tipp City Lutheran Church in Tipp City.

The story line, featuring the award-winning script by Ken Ludwig, also will include the desserts of Mary Nilsen.
