MONROE TOWNSHIP — The Monroe Township Trustees approved participation in the 2017 Miami County Engineer’s road pavement program at the board’s April 17 meeting. The estimated cost approved for paving of David and Dwight Drives and Detrick Road will be $109,165.

The other resolution passed by the trustees was payment of bills totaling $46,781.96 that included a semi-annual Fire Protection Services contract payment with the Tipp City Fire Department.

The township’s springtime agenda will be preparing for Township Building sidewalk improvements on South Third Street, and prepping the rental house next to Maple Hill Cemetery for potential new tenants. The board is also addressing a renewed concern about truck traffic on Peters Road, and specifications for future purchase of a snow plow truck.

Several events noted for April 29 are the New Path 5K Run that begins at 9 a.m. from the Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church, and a DEA Drug Drop-off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Miami County Transfer Station so drugs can be disposed of safely rather than flushed down drains or toilets that can impact waterways. It was also noted that unused medication can be deposited year-round at approved drop boxes by contacting the Miami County Sheriff’s Office or a local police station for more information.

Also announced at the township meeting was the beginning of this year’s Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May through September at the Miami County Transfer Station in Troy. For more information on this, or the daily acceptance for latex paint disposal or sorted glass containers, aluminum cans, steel cans, cardboard, plastics and electronics recycling, call (937) 440-5653 or visit www.miamicountyohio.gov/solidwaste.

Early May area events also noted include the Annual Community-Wide Garage Sale in Tipp City on Saturday, May 6, and on the same day at the Miami County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to noon, a free paper shredding where a maximum of four file boxes will be accepted per resident.

The next township trustees meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, May 1 in the township meeting room, 6 E. Main St., Tipp City.
