Vandalia man jailed following pursuit


Driver fled officers, crashed in field

MIAMI COUNTY — A man is in custody following a pursuit which ended in a single-car accident at the intersection of County Road 25-A and Lightner Road in Union Township.

Eric Knight, 32, of Vandalia, is incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail and charged with allegedly OVI, failure to comply and reckless driving. He was arraigned on the charges Thursday morning. Bond was set at $5,000 for all charges.

Knight’s vehicle reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour after he fled Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, who attempted to stop him for a speeding violation at Stonequarry Road and Dixie Drive in Vandalia early Thursday morning.

Knight ran a stop light at the intersection and he led troopers on a high-speed chase which pursuit ended in a field. Knight swerved off the road, hit a stop sign, a light pole at the intersection of County Road 25-A and Lightner Road on the Miami and Montgomery County line.

Officers found marijuana in the vehicle following the accident. A female passenger was transported to the hospital. Her name and condition have not been released.
