PIQUA — A Piqua man died Saturday night as the result of injuries sustained earlier that day in a motorcycle crash in downtown Piqua that shut down the surrounding area for several hours.
According to a release from the Piqua Police Department, an officer on patrol heard a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle at the intersection of Main and High streets at 3:38 p.m. Saturday.
Piqua Fire/EMS arrived and transported the motorcyclist, Walter C. Rice Jr. of Piqua, to a landing zone to be taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he passed away at approximately 9:15 p.m.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
No charges have been filed as of yet, Piqua Chief of Police Bruce Jamison said on Sunday.
The accident is still under investigation, with the Piqua Police Department receiving assistance from Miami County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstructionists.
All evidence obtained will be presented to the Miami County grand jury for consideration, Jamison said.
