MIAMI COUNTY — Grandparents were battling it out on the auction block as they — and others on the fairgrounds came out Saturday to support the best of the best from the Art Hall’s bakers.

Brayden Havenar, 9, sold his prize winning no-bake cookies for $150 to his grandpa Brad Havenar. Havenar, from Piqua, said he brought the no-bake cookies to the fair the last two years because they are his favorite to make with his mother Mandy at home.

“I just like them,” he said. “They are easy to make.”

“Those better be good cookies!”said Grandpa Havenar after he clinched the winning bid.

Havenar wouldn’t share his secret recipe, however Paisley McCarroll, 6, of West Milton, accidentally coughed up her sweet secret on what makes her zucchini bread stand out — but, the secret will not be divulged.

McCarroll’s grandmothers bid back and forth on their granddaughter’s entry, raising the winning bid up to $200.

Paisley said her favorite part of baking is mixing all the ingredients together.

A large percentage of the sale goes to the participant, and a small percentages goes to the Art Hall for improvements.

Madison Otte, 15, of Covington brought her banana bread to the sale of champions.

“The auction makes me nervous, but it’s fun,” Ott said.

Otte takes a variety of projects to the Art Hall each year. She said she enjoys participating in the fair with her grandmother Nola Harmon.

“It’s just a fun way to spend time with my grandma because she helps me make sure I have everything done,” she said. “We do this together.”

Scott Pence and Jerry Stitcher, local auctioneers, donated their services to the auction on Saturday.
