TIPP CITY — On Monday, the Tipp City School Board voted to confirm the district’s participation in the sponsorship agreement with Good Samaritan Hospital and Upper Valley Medical Center.

The board voted to extend the term of the agreement from Aug. 28, 2018, through Aug. 28, 2023.

Board member Carla Frame questioned why the board was being asked to sign the agreement a year early.

Treasurer Dave Stevens explained that by voting now, the board was confirming the district’s receipt of the $75,000 donation for the next five year period.

“We’re just getting it in place so that we can make sure the funding is in place for when we go to update the turf at the stadium,” Stevens said.

Kumpf noted that not all districts will have their donation agreements renewed with the health network.

“We’re very delighted that they would like to continue renewing,” she added.

The 10-year sponsorship program was approved in 2008. As part of the sponsorship, Tipp City schools receive athletic training and sports medicine services, as well as funds to support athletic programs, in exchange for naming rights at the district’s athletic complex on North Hyatt Street.

In other business, the board approved several transfers and advances from the general fund, including $300,000 to fund the English Language Arts curriculum budget, $15,000 to the Wellness Incentive Fund, allocating a portion of the 2015 policy year rebate from the Bureau of Workers Compensation for the district’s workplace safety and health programs; and $50,000 to Nutrition Services, to eliminate negative fund balances that are anticipated to occur during the 2017-18 school year.

The board also approved several new district employees and welcomed them to the district. They include Ron Duncan, elementary music; Theresa Thinnes, middle school and high school intervention specialist; Elizabeth Osswald, bus aide and clinic aide; and part-time lunchroom personnel Dawn Reigelsperger and Emily Trost.

The board will meet for their work session at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 and for their next regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25.
