MIAMI COUNTY — On Tuesday, the Miami County Commissioners approved several contracts and authorized joint solicitation for professional design and engineering services.
According to Commission Clerk Leigh Williams, putting out a joint request for proposals each year is intended to cut down on the amount of advertising the county pays for when seeking engineering and design services.
It will allow the Commissioners Office to advertise for statements of qualifications for professional design and engineering services in 2018. This will include county facilities and properties, as well as highway, bridge, and water projects and property acquisition.
“This is a (request for qualifications) that we’re going to be putting out annually,” Williams said. “This will eliminate costs in advertising every time we need to procure an engineer for under $50,000.”
The board also approved several contracts including the removal and replacement of the existing carpet in the Children’s Service Department of the Hobart Center for County Government. The current carpet will be replaced with carpet squares.
The project, awarded to Stanley Steemer of Troy, also includes several offices on the main floor. The cost is not to exceed $48,507.
The commissioners also authorized the the addition of more asphalt parking surface at the Miami County Transit Building on the west side of the building. The county accepted a quote from Cooper’s Blacktop of Ludlow Falls for $6,400.
The painting of the juvenile and probate courtrooms was also approved. Bissett & Company’s quote came in at $2,100, about half as much as other quotes received. Facilities and Operations Director Chris Johnson added that the company has previously done work for the county.
