Newton’s fall fair set for Friday

PLEASANT HILL — On Friday, Oct. 9, the Newton FFA and FCCLA will be holding its 85th annual Fall Fair.

The traditional pulled pork dinner will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria for $6 for adults and $3 for children’s meals.

The Newton High School Marching Band will perform its contest show at 6 p.m. at the soccer field. There will also be two large jumpies for kids, a kiddie tractor pull, produce exhibits, class competitions and a dance for grades seventh through 12th to conclude the night. This event has become a tradition. It signals that harvest is near, cooler weather is here and the year is well under way.

There will be exhibits by the FFA chapter in the shop and crop categories with divisions of: Grain, Shop, Eggs, Hay, Silage, Vegetables, and Fruit. Also, there is a category of Agricultural Promotion featuring student ag project posters, farm photography and farm displays. FCCLA will host exhibits in the following divisions: baked goods, canned goods, sewing, craft projects, sewing project and flowers.

Entries will be taken from Newton Township residents beginning at 6:30 a.m. until noon. Our annual pulled pork dinner beginning 5:00-7:30 in the school cafeteria offered for $6, kids meal will be available for $3.

The Kiddie Tractor Pull registration begins at 6 p.m. for children 3-10. The annual “Class Challenge” will begin at 7:45 p.m. and the cost of admission is $2 per person. During the challenge the “Kiss the Pig” contest winner will be revealed.
