County bands earn high marks

Staff reports

MIAMI COUNTY — Hard work has paid off for several Miami County high school bands.

The Ohio Music Education Association competition took place Nov. 1.

There, Troy, Tipp City and Newton schools all received “Superior” ratings at the competition, while Piqua received an “Excellent” rating. Milton-Union also received a good rating.

Newton Local Schools band director Matthew Gaal said his students have worked hard and have always had good training to help them.

“I think the students have been trained really well by the educators that have been here before me and the band directors that have been here before me,” he said.

As of press time, no other schools have shared their ratings.
