MIAMI COUNTY — The Clark County Grand Jury issued a 24 count indictment against seven members of a theft ring that has been operating in Clark, Delaware, Miami, Montgomery, Pickaway, Preble and Shelby counties.

According to a press release from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, a year-long multi-jurisdiction investigation into thefts from outbuildings and several thefts of ATM’s from several businesses in multiple counties, including Miami County, concludes with the indictment of seven suspects.

According to a copy of the indictment, 24 of the 74 count indictments occurred in Miami County. Charges from Miami County crimes range from first degree felony engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, felony burglary, felony breaking and entering; receiving stolen property, and grand theft of a motor vehicle, safe-cracking, vandalism, and theft of drugs.

“Clark County Prosecutor is prosecuting for all counties as they are being charged under the racketeering statute,” said Miami County Chief Deputy Dave Duchak on Friday. “While it cleared a lot of breaking and entering (incidents) in Miami County, we believe they were likely involved in other breaking and enterings in Miami County. The investigation is continuing.”

Duchak said some of the suspects were involved in cases such as the Big Mike’s gas station ATM theft last February and other crimes in and around southern Bethel Township.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office contributed detectives to the year-long investigation and assisted in the execution of search warrants and arrest warrants. This collaborative effort has effectively shut down an organized theft ring.

The following are the names of those who have been indicted: Billy Barrett, Markus Barrett, Jerry Bush, Jesse Rieder, Ricky Large, Ricky Terry and Kenneth Melton.

As part of the investigation and indictment, 12 vehicles were found to be obtained from proceeds or involved in the offenses. The vehicles included a boat, several trucks, SUVs and cars, and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
