Information provided by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office:
FRAUD: The reporting party’s email was fraudulently used for a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to LA. The name used for the flight was Mohammad Alam Millu. The email used was firstname.lastname@example.org. The flight departed Dec. 6 at 7:10 a.m. and arrived at 10 p.m. This information was forwarded to Homeland Security in Columbus.
PIANO ORDEAL: A deputy responded to the 4000 block of Camelot Road, Piqua, for a fraud complaint. The reporting party advised he was trying to sell a piano on Craigslist. He stated he was selling the piano for $375.00. He was contacted by a Tim Reeves through text message for the piano.
The reporting party advised they came to an agreement for Tim to send a check in the mail.
The reporting party was directed to cash the check , keep the $375.00 they agreed on and to give the rest of the check to the movers. The amount on the check was $1,720.00. The reporting party took the check to his bank, who informed him is was a fake.
The check appeared to be counterfeit. The check was counterfeit to be a First Merit cashier’s check. The deputy contacted First Merit Bank. First Merit Bank was able to verify the cashier’s check was a counterfeit.
The reporting party was not out of any money but his main concern was the movers coming to his residence to pick up the piano and to receive payment. The deputy advised the reporting party to contact law enforcement when they arrive.
THEFT: A deputy was dispatched on a theft not in progress at Norbert Drive in Concord Township,. The reporting party stated that sometime since Saturday night, someone had entered his shed and had stolen multiple items.
DUS: A deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for the equipment violation at Scarff Road and U.S. 40, Tipp City. The deputy identified the driver as Cindy Barker and passenger as Andrew Barker.
Cindy Barker was found to have a suspended drivers license in the State of Ohio. She was issued a citation and advised of her court date. Mr. Barker did not have a valid license either so they called someone to pick them up.
DUS: A deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-75 south, near the 74 mile marker. The stop was initiated based on the listed vehicle following too close and a marked lanes violation. The deputy made contact with the driver and informed him of the reason for the stop. The driver, Daniel Moeller, informed the deputy that he had a suspended license. The deputy obtained Daniel’s information and confirmed his status was failure to reinstate.
Daniel received a citation for failure to reinstate his license. Warnings were issued for the marked lanes violation and following too close. Daniel was advised to call for a valid driver to come get him and his vehicle. This case is closed.
OVERDOSE: A deputy responded to the 8100 block of Wildcat Road, Tipp City, to assist the squad on a heroin overdose. After investigation, Randall Palmer will be charged with possession of heroin.
OVI: A deputy stopped the listed vehicle for a moving violation at Polecat Road and Piqua-Troy Road, Troy. The deputy made contact with the driver who was identified as the defendant Amy M Graham. After further investigation Ms. Graham was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody for OVI.
BURGLARY: A deputy responded to Miami County Fair Grounds reference a breaking and entering complaint.
HEROIN: Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the listed vehicle for failing to come to a complete stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Wood Street and College Street in the city of Piqua.
Subsequently the driver identified as Derek Dorsten, was taken into custody and charged with a stop sign violation, failure to reinstate, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of heroin.
OVI: A deputy stopped a vehicle for a moving violation at Ridge and Main Street, Troy. The deputy made contact with the driver who was identified as the defendant Leah B Berry. After further investigation Ms. Berry was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody for OVI.
TRESPASSING: A deputy responded to the5900 block of Scarff Road, New Carlisle, in reference a trespassing complaint. While enroute dispatch advised the reporting party observed 3-4 males in a maroon truck enter the property. The suspects broke the lock on the front gate and drove back to the work barn. The RP stated he observed the truck to loaded with metal. Before he could drive onto the property the truck drove off. He followed the vehicle into New Carlisle but lost sight of it. He was able to get the license plate.
SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: Deputies located an occupied suspicious vehicle sitting in the parking lot of 7465 Peters Road, Tipp City. The vehicle was a red 2000 Honda Civic.
A female quickly exited the driver seat. She approached the driver side of the patrol car and advised that her vehicle had broken down. She was very nervous and kept looking back at her car as if someone else was in it. When she was asked if someone else was in the vehicle, she stated, ” No I, am just waiting on my mother.”
A deputy saw a person crouched down in the front passenger seat. A deputy then exited the passenger seat of the patrol car and approached the passenger side of the Honda, while another deputy stayed with the female driver. Once on the passenger side of the Honda, the deputy discovered a white male. The deputy then asked him to exit car and proceeded to ask him why he was crouched down in the seat. As he exited the vehicle, the deputy detected a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from within the vehicle.
At this point the male and female were detained. The female driver was identified as 23 year-old Shelby Pierson and the male was identified as 19 year-old Dakota Atkins. Both were detained while a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search of the vehicle, four packs of cigarillo cigars and a plastic bag of a green leafy substance that looked and smelled like marijuana, were located inside of a backpack, on the floor in front of the front passenger seat.
In conclusion of the vehicle search, no other illegal contraband was located. Both Dakota and Shelby were read Miranda. Dakota admitted that the marijuana and cigarillos were his property. He was cited for both. The evidence collected was booked into the Miami County Property room.
PAINTING MISSING: A resident in the 2000 block of Seneca Drive, Troy, reported a painting was stolen out of his house over the weekend.
BUSINESS: The Stillwater Ridge Sports Center, in Union Township, was broken into and several items were stolen.
COMPLAINT: Deputies were dispatched to the 2000 block of State Route 571, Tipp City, on a burglary complaint.
HEROIN: A deputy conducted a traffic stop at 1475 W. Market Street in Concord Township. The stop was initiated for a marked lanes violation and no license plate light. The driver of the vehicle was found to have a suspended driver’s license. Further questioning during the stop led to the confession the driver and passenger were heroin addicts. The passenger was found to be in possession of a drug abuse instrument and was also consuming alcohol in the vehicle.
The driver and passenger were charged appropriately and released at the scene. The alcohol was discarded at the scene, and the drug abuse instrument was booked into evidence at the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. This case is closed.
