TROY — A shoplifting spree and short chase ended in arrest for a Fairborn man on Saturday.
According to Troy Police Department Detective Chris Tilley, a man who had spent more than an hour shoplifting inside the Troy Meijer store took off on a bicycle at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, chased by the store detective. Tilley said the man road the bicycle to a waiting truck at the KFC across the street, where he and an accomplice loaded the bike in the truck, nearly hitting a witness and headed southbound on Interstate 75.
Tipp City Police picked up chase of the truck, which the man was driving approximately 60 mph down the emergency lane of I-75 before eventually stopping.
Joshua Graupmann of Fairborn was arrested and taken to the Miami County Jail. He is being charged with one count of theft, one count of possessing criminal tools and failure to comply and fleeing/eluding.
Tilley said a backpack full of stolen clothing and possibly some other items were found in the truck, along with a meth pipe and variety of pills. Open containers of beer also were located inside the vehicle.
Tilley said Graupmann admitted to being a drug addict, and said he needed some items before going to work in Beavercreek.
Tilley said the man also is wanted in Greene and Montgomery counties on drug and other charges.
The passenger was not charged in the incident, however, Tilley said he could still face charges.
