MIAMI COUNTY — A Conover teenager lost his life in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday morning.

Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said that the victim, identified as Christopher A. Coppock, 17, of Conover, was westbound on Peterson Road shortly before 8 a.m., when he apparently failed to stop at at the stop sign at Troy-Sidney Road and was struck by a northbound semi-tractor trailer driven by Jerah Hanson, 35, of Huber Heights.

The impact of the crash sent Coppock’s vehicle into a field where it came to rest approximately 40 yards off the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hansen was shaken up but not physically injured in the crash.

A crash reconstruction team from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash and the Ohio Highway Patrol’s commercial vehicle team inspected both the truck and the car.

Troy-Sidney Road, between Rusk and Loy roads was closed for several hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

It was the second serious crash of the morning in the county.

The Ohio Highway Patrol responded to a semi-tractor trailer crash on I-75 around 5 a.m. Troopers arrived to find a semi on its side and over a guardrail on northbound I-75 near the 84 mile marker.

Lt. Joseph Gephart of the Piqua Post said that the truck was northbound when the driver, for unknown reason, drifted off the right side of the highway, lost control and crashed into the guardrail, before tipping over and coming to rest on its right side.

Gephart said that the driver was not seriously injured and likely faces a citation for failure to control.

One lane of the highway was shut down for several hours while the crash was investigated and the semi turned back onto it’s wheels and towed.
