Art show winners named
WEST MILTON — Forty artists participated in the ninth annual Hoffman Art Show at Hoffman United Methodist Church in West Milton held Oct. 2-4. More than 200 attendees had the opportunity to vote on their three favorite pieces among the 105 on display.
Several pieces were sold throughout the show.
When the People’s Choice votes from all three days were tallied the winners were: First place – Regina Whipp for “Grey Percherons,” $500; second place — George Stum for “Raccoon With Friends,” $400; third place — Jack Welbaum for “Eye of the Tiger,” $300; fourth place — Judy Deisher for “Little Bird,” $150.
The $50 High School Student Award went to Kelly Naff for her pencil art. Honorable mentions of $100 each went to: Megan Kishman for “Wildflowers Learning to Grow”; Jeanne Wenrick for “Brukner’s Mill”; Bonnie Peer for “Symbol of Freedom”; Rita Orre for “Hummingbird Heaven”; Linda Lou Thorp Radwick for “Midnight Storm”; and Edward Wilson for “Giraffe.”
Bill Netzley of Netzley Roofing donated the prize money of $2,000 and Bob Menker of Patterson’s Flowers provided the variety of plants that add to the atmosphere of the show every year.
FFA member of the month named
CASSTOWN — The October 2015 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Member of the Month is Zach Zowalak.
He is the son of Mark and Gretchen Kowalak.
He is a freshman and first year member of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter.
Zowalak recently participated in the district urban soils Career Development Event. He also attended the State Greenhand Conference, Covington FFA Children’s Hospital Fundraiser Dodge Ball Tournament, and Emergency Responders Farm Safety Training program. Furthermore, Zach participated in the chapter’s trapshooting event and FFA Freshman Family Welcome Night
Every month of the school year the Miami East-MVCTC FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Ag Room, and will receive a special accolade in celebration of their accomplishment.
