Going ‘bats’ at Brukner


TROY — Brukner Nature Center will present “Bats” from 2-3 p.m. Saturday.


Join participants as they explore the diversity and natural history of bats found around Ohio and discover the amazing service they provide to us and our ecosystem that is guaranteed to not disappoint.


This event is free with admission to the center; BNC members are free.


Literacy council to meet


TROY — The Troy Literacy Council, an all-volunteer organization, will meet at the Troy-Hayner Center at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, Troy. Adults seeking help with basic literacy or wish to learn English as a second language, and those interested in becoming tutors, are asked to contact our message center at (937) 660-3170 for more information.


Veterans breakfast set


TROY — The Fort Pickawillany Society Children of the American Revolution, in partnership with the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, will be hosting the first Wednesday free coffee and doughnuts event from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 7.


Members of the C.A.R. will be providing veterans a breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, doughnuts, juice and coffee. This event is for all veterans and is held at the museum, 107 W. Main St., Troy, in the second floor dining facilities of the Masonic Lodge building. An elevator is available.


Along with the breakfast, the C.A.R. members would like to have some time to interview those in attendance.


‘Spider Sniff’ event planned


PIQUA — The Miami County Park District will hold a “Spider Sniff” from 8:30-10 p.m. Aug. 8 at Garbry Big Woods Reserve, 6660 Casstown-Sidney Road, east of Piqua.


Join a park district naturalist and discover the fascinating world of these eight-legged creatures. Make sure to bring a flashlight as you take a journey on a fun filled, spider sniffing adventure.
