TROY — Troy Noon Optimist Club members have announced they have awarded five $1,000 scholarships to five 2015 graduating seniors from Troy High School. The recipients of the scholarship funds are: Lauren Anderson, Olivia Mullins, Mary Huffman, Joshua Spayde and Hayley Robbins.
This is the most scholarships the club has ever awarded at one presentation. Fund raising for the club has been successful in the past year, including a booth at the Strawberry Festival and the Avenue of Flags program.
Every patriotic holiday, Troy residents will see American flags in front of more and more homes and businesses in Troy. If you are not participating in this program, and would like to, email AvenueofFlags@troynoonoptimist.com and you can donate and show your patriotism on Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day.
Scholarship chairman David Beitzel added that in addition to scholarships, the Optimists fundraising allows the club to continue its support of the Hometown Halloween Parade and Costume Contest, the Hometown Holiday Celebration, the Troy Noon Optimists Oratorical Contest for junior and senior high students, the Lincoln Center, Girl Scouts, Destination Imagination, the Sheriff’s Summer Youth Camp, Brukner Nature Center and “Kids Read Now.”
