TROY — Tom Kennedy, owner of The Cakery in Troy, has announced the closing of the business on April 15.
“While it was great for a time, with resources spreading thin at each location, the decision to consolidate at a single and central location was the logical choice,” Kennedy said. “We have not been able to find qualified decorators as in the past. With the advent of Facebook and other social media, people are learning to decorate and then opening a business in their home. As more decorators go this route, it is becoming more difficult to maintain the business at a very high level as they are used to.”
The Cakery has been operating out of the Dayton location, 140 Woodman Drive, for more than 20 years. In May 2013, the Troy store opened with hopes of growing the family-owned business. With continuous decreases in personnel at both locations, serving the public continues to get harder, Kennedy said.
“By bringing their staff and talent together to work under one roof, The Cakery will be able to continue providing high quality baked goods and service,” he said of keeping the Dayton store in operation.
For those of with orders in place at the Troy location, staff will be in contact to discuss your order.
