MIAMI COUNTY — Taking the time to pray for the county’s first responders is the focus of the annual Mayor’s Prayer Gathering.
In honor of the city of Troy’s Bicentennial, the community is invited to the Troy Mayor’s Prayer Gathering, which will be held at 10 a.m. March 15 at First Place Christian Center, 16 W. Franklin St., Troy.
The 34th annual Mayor’s Prayer Gathering, which used to include breakfast, but now has changed to offer a free assortment of pastries, coffee, tea and juice to be served.
“It’s an opportunity for the community to get together and pray for the city and county workers,” said Penny Hoekstra, a member of the Mayor’s Prayer Gathering Committee.
Local pastors and clergy will lead the group in prayer for local leaders, city and county employees, first responders and the nation.
“It’s a great opportunity to bring city, county and clergy together and take the time to pray,” Hoekstra said.
The annual Mayor’s Prayer Gathering also will feature faith-based music by local favorite Rum River Blend.
“Number one there’s no cost and number two Rum River Blend is a great local musical group,” she said.
The annual Mayor’s Prayer Gathering may be traveling to local churches in the future, Hoestra said.
“We’re simplifying it this year in hopes other churches can host the event in the future,” she said.
The Mayor’s Youth Council also will be part of the annual event by helping with the gathering.
