WEST MILTON — A quarter auction will be held Saturday, June 14 to benefit Becca Mason, 16, daughter of Robert and Michelle Mason, in obtaining a medical alert/ service dog. The auction will be at the West Milton Senior Citizens Center, 435 W. Hamilton Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the auction to begin at 7 p.m.

Mason suffers from asthma and other medical conditions which qualify her for this service. The dog will be provided and trained by SIT (Supporting Independence through Teamwork), Ava, Ill., which works through community support to make service dogs more affordable. The dog will be trained specifically for Mason to help recognize signs of an asthmatic attack and serve other medical needs. An overall goal of $8,900 must be reached in order to acquire a trained service dog.

“We are looking forward to selecting and training a dog that will meet Becca’s needs,” Lex Dietz, owner of SIT, stated.

Mason, a Milton-Union student and a bassoonist, performed with the Carillon Park Youth Band in 2013, the Lima Youth Area Orchestra for the 2013-14 season and currently is a member of the Englewood Civic Band with several concerts scheduled. She competed with the Ohio Music Education Association and received a Superior rating on a Class A piece. Mason attended college music camps during the past two summers. She takes private bassoon lessons from Omar Lozano. Mason’s love of animals is leading her to a career involving the care of animals.

Numbered paddles will be sold at a normal price at the door which allows a person to participate in the bidding process. Attendees should bring quarters in order to bid on donated items.

Various direct marketing vendors will donate items for the auction. Sandy Earick and Julie Mason have assisted in organizing the event.

In addition, a specific group of items are donated by local community support to be auctioned for the benefit of Mason’s goal. Sue Deaton, friend of the family, will emcee the auction for the specific fund raiser items for Mason.

West Milton area businesses as well as friends of the Mason’s have been generous in their support. Everything from tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game, lawn chairs, garden supplies, beauty salon certificates and a car detailing certificate have been donated. Light refreshments will also be available.

For more information or to donate an item for the auction, contact Michelle Mason at (937) 974-5887 or michellemason@aol.com, or Candy Curry of Curry’s Videos at (937) 698-3835.
