CONCORD TOWNSHIP — Early Tuesday morning, deputies stopped a vehicle for a marked lane violation in Concord Township.

Due to indicators observed by deputies, K-9 Bear was summonsed and did a walk-around of the vehicle. K-9 Bear alerted on the vehicle and subsequent search located marijuana, drug paraphernalia, stolen property — to include clothing that had been shoplifted with a value in excess of $5,000 — and “booster” bags. “Booster” bags are carrying type bags that are lined with material that prevents store security scanners from going off when exiting the store.

Shamon Smith, 43, of Louisville, Ky., was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail for admittedly being involved in shoplifting using the “booster” bags.

The items appear to have been stolen from department stores in Michigan.

Smith has been charged with driving under suspension, felony receiving stolen property, possession of criminal tools, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia

Deputies continue to follow-up on the investigation.
