CONCORD TWP. — Concord Township Trustees recently reviewed the plan for two memorial signs to be placed on township property to honor two fallen Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were killed in the line of duty.

A memorial drive honoring Sgt. William R. Morris will be placed at the Miami County Government Complex on County-Road 25-A, Troy. Morris was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 22, 1972. A memorial drive honoring Sgt. Robert Elliott will be placed at Barbee Park on County Road 25-A, Troy, as well. Elliott was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 25, 1987.

On June 17, Billie J. Ray, special investigator, presented more information about the memorial signs to township trustees. Approval to install the memorial signs had been previously approved a few years ago. Ray said due to family illness and timing issues, the memorial dedication had be delayed. Ray said a dedication ceremony will take place as soon as the signs and arrangements with the families to attend are made.

Ray said he hoped to have a memorial ceremony dedication by August.

“I think it is wonderful and I’m glad that the trustees and I agree that we look forward to it,” said trustee Tom Mercer.

“We appreciate what you are allowing us to do,” Ray said.

In other township news, the township buildings located on State Route 718 are being painted by township employees. Assistant road superintendent Brandt Miller also reported approximately 20 more loads of flood debris was scheduled to be loaded.

Trustee Bill Whidden thanked Miller for his quick response to a large tree, which fell in the roadway on Woodlawn Drive earlier in the month.

The Concord Township staff will be doing brush pick-up June 27-30. If you have brush or limbs to be collected, call the Township Building at 339-1492 and leave your name and address.

All brush must be out by 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the first day, June 27. Once the staff begins collection, they are not able to go back to areas previously covered.

Concord Township offers brush pick-up on the last two working days of each month from April-September.

Trustees will meet again at 10 a.m. July 1 at the township building on Horizon Court West. For more information or to sign up for email alerts and newsletters from the Concord Township trustees, visit www.concord-township.com.
