TROY — A male bicyclist, Dr. Robert Barker, 61, of Kettering, involved in a car/bicycle crash on Friday, has been discharged from the hospital, according to a spokesperson for Miami Valley Hospital.
Barker was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital and first reported in serious condition following the accident.
The crash happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Troy-Urbana and Cathcart roads, according to Miami County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Keith Carter.
Barker, who was only carrying a credit card at the time of the crash, was not immediately identified according to the sheriff’s office, because he was not carrying photo identification.
Barker was traveling southwest on Troy-Urbana Road, attempting a left-hand turn south onto Carthcart Road, when he was struck by a car. The driver of the Toyota Prius, Connie Humphreys, of Conover, in her 60s, struck the male driver when she was attempting to pass him on the left, according to Carter.
Carter said Humphreys apparently did not see the male attempting to turn, and illegally passed the cyclist at an intersection with double yellow lines.
Carter said the bicyclist, who was participating in a 100K bicycle event at the time he was hit, was wearing a helmet and had proper reflective items on his bike. Carter said the man hit the front windshield of the vehicle during the collision.
Barker, a cricital care doctor at Kettering Medical Center, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. Humphreys was uninjured.
A crash reconstruction team was on the scene following the accident, according to Carter.
He said charges could be pending following a full investigation of the accident.
