Celebrate the Star Spangled Banner

TIPP CITY — The Tipp City Church of the Nazarene announced it will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the National Anthem during a patriotic worship service 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.

The service will include special music and a message by Senior Pastor Bradley Warkentine entitled, “Our flag was still standing.” The service will conclude with the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

The church is located at 1221 W. Main St. in Tipp City. The public is invited. For more information, call (937) 667-6586.

VBS at Fletcher

FLETCHER — The Fletcher United Methodist Church presents Vacation Bible School 2014 on Tuesday, July 8, through Thursday, July 10 from 6-8:30 p.m. Everyone from age 5 through fifth grade is invited to join in the fun, games, snacks, and singing.

Take a “second chance”

FLETCHER — The Fletcher United Methodist Church will be hosting their “Second Chance” annual Community Garage Sale on Saturday, July 12, beginning at 8 a.m. at the old Fletcher Firehouse (corner of Walnut Street and State Route 36).

Reading program planned

CASSTOWN — The Casstown United Methodist Church at 102 Center St., Casstown, will host a summer reading program for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through July 29.

Students will learn reading skills and participate in crafts, music and exercise. Special and interactive presentations also are planned, as well as a healthy lunch and afternoon snack.

The program is being supported by a grant from the Miami Valley District of the United Methodist Church and will be led by college students and church adult members.

VBS visits Treasure Island

WEST MILTON — The West Milton Church of the Nazarene invites kids to embark on a first-class tour of “SonTreasure Island Vacation Bible School.”

The school will be offered 6:30-8:30 p.m. from July 14-18.

Kids can enjoy games, crafts, refreshments, Bible stories, a toy store and Dave’s Barrel Train Rides.

See the art at Hoffman

WEST MILTON — The seventh annual art show will take place at Hoffman United Methodist church July 18-20. The show will be in the activity center located at 201 S. Main St. (one block west of St. Rt. 48). It is a non-juried show. The purpose of the show is to provide a showcase for area talent of all ages. There will be more than 25 participants from area communities. There is no admittance fee and all three days of the show are open to the public.

A silent auction, featuring pieces provided by the artists, will begin during the opening reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on July 18 and concludes at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 19. The show will also be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Two-thousand dollars in cash awards will be presented thanks to a generous donation by Bill Netzley of Netzley Roofing.

People’s Choice voting from all three days will determine ten winners. Winners will be announced and awards presented at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Some pieces by participating artists may be available for purchase.

Cancer-Companions support group available

TROY — With the help of a grant from the Troy Foundation, St. Patrick Church is offering a cancer support group, Cancer-Companions, Bringing Hope to the Journey on Thursdays.

The support group will meet at St. Patrick Parish Center, 444 E. Water St., upstairs in Room 3 on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

The support group will offer information on cancer resources and individual support from someone that understands.
