MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Chapter of CISV is participating in the seventh annual “‘IKEA Life Improvement Co-worker Challenge,” a grant program that gives this non-profit the chance to win a makeover from IKEA for their International village being held this summer in Miami County.

This makeover will provide new mattresses for the village and for other overnight programs the organization holds throughout the year.

Free movie at Hayner

TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will offer a Friday night movie at 301 W. Main St., Troy. The movie will be “The Whales of August,” and will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 8 and is free and open to the public.

There will be cafe-style seating and popcorn and soft drinks.

Garage sale set

CONOVER — The AB Graham Center will hold a garage sale from noon to 5 p.m. April 8.

If you would like to set up a table of your own, it is $20 for an 8-foot space. If you don’t want your own table, but have items, feel free to drop off your items in the gym after April 3.

Kite fly upcoming

COVINGTON — The Miami County Park District will hold its annual “Kreature Kite Fly” sponsored by the Park District VIPs from 1-3 p.m. April 10 at Stillwater Prairie Reserve, 9750 State Route 185 in Covington.

Participants are invited to test their kit flying skills at this fun program. There will be a kite building workshop for kids of all ages throughout the course of the event. Awards will be given in a variety of categories and the VIPs will provide light refreshments.

This is an event for the entire family. Judging will take place from 1 to 2 p.m.

Lasagna dinner offered

TROY — The Troy Senior Citizens Center, 134 N. Market St., Troy, will host this event at 1 p.m. April 10. Adam Jacomet is raising funds as a competitor in Piqua Arts Council’s Dancing with the Piqua Stars. All-you-can-eat lasagna, garlic bread, garden salad and tiramisu for $10, payable at the door. If writing a check, make payable to Piqua Arts Council, with Jacomet’s name in the memo line.

Celebration to honor school

COVINGTON — A celebration of the closing of Covington Elementary School will be include a reception for former and current Covington Elementary School employees from 1-2 p.m. April 16 in the CES Gymnasium. Following that reception, an open house for the public is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Classrooms will be open for memories of experiences in the elementary building. In the gymnasium will be tables featuring yearbooks, Cat’s Meow replicas of all three buildings for purchase, T-shirts to order, various pictures of school events, the new K-8 building and refreshments.
