COLUMBIA, Mo. — The recruiting trips the University of Missouri wrestling coaches took to Troy Christian high school the past few years have proved to be a two-for-one bargain.
Brothers Zach and B.J. Toal — both Troy Christian High School graduates — have put together impressive numbers for the Tigers this season.
Zach, a senior wrestling at 165 pounds, currently is ranked No. 10 in the nation. He’s gone 17-3 this season, with two of his losses coming against Penn State’s David Taylor (the Graham graduate ranked No. 1 in the nation) and Virginia’s Nick Sulzer (ranked No. 3 in the nation). Toal won both the Warren Williams/Daktronics Open and the University of Northern Illinois Open. He placed second at the Joe Parisi Open and fourth at the Southern Scuffle. He is a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier who went 25-18 last season.
B.J., a freshman, has gone 12-6 at 184 pounds while competing behind nationally ranked junior Johnny Eblen on the Tigers’ roster. He placed sixth at the Warren Williams/Daktronics Open, second at the Joe Parisi Open (competing in the freshman/sophomore division), third at the Kaufman-Brand Open and third at the UNI Open.
• Andrew DeHart
DURHAM, N.C. — DeHart, a Covington High School graduate, currently is 6-6 while competing at 165 pounds for the Duke University wrestling team. His top finish of the year was a sixth-place finish at The Hokie Open.
Last season, DeHart went 4-8 while competing at 157 pounds. He earned starts in dual meets against Eastern Michigan and Michigan and earned a 33-second pin while going 4-2 at The Hokie Open.
• Jordan Marshall
NORFOLK, Va. — Marshall, a Troy Christian graduate, is a freshman on Old Dominion University wrestling team.
Marshall, competing at 157 pounds, came back from knee surgery in September to compete in three tournaments this year. He won the Cleveland Open and placed fifth at the F&M Open.
• Cole Cochran
ADA — After missing all of last season with an injury, Cochran — a Troy High School graduate — has made his return for the Ohio Northern University wrestling team.
Cochran, a junior who competes at 133 pounds, has gone 4-6 with one major decision. As a freshman, Cochran went 19-15, placing fourth at the Ohio Athletic Conference championships, fifth at the Wheaton Invitational and fourth the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational.
