MIAMI COUNTY — ODOT crews are working around the clock plowing and salting interstate , U.S. and state routes throughout District 7.
As of 10:30 a.m. Monday there were 126 plows out working. ODOT officials ask motorists to give them room to clear the way.
Snow plows move much slower to ensure the roads are safe and passable.
Ice and Snow…Take it Slow.
With the extremely cold temperatures our crews are doing all we can to clear the roads from ice, however, as the mercury drops the salt and brine become less effective on the pavement. ODOT is adjusting the solution to make it as effective as possible. Northern counties were hit hardest with 11 inches of snow in some spots. Winds are also causing some drifting issues. Please be aware that even if roads look clear, there could be black ice or slick spots. Drivers should continue to use caution during these extreme temperatures. Our crews will remain on duty in Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery and Shelby Counties until the roads are clear. Snow plow numbers may be adjusted through the day as weather conditions warrant.
As of January 2014. ODOT District 7 has used 29,568 tons of salt this winter season.
