• GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT: The Great Backyard Bird Count will be offered from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. at Brukner Nature Center. Grab a cup of coffee and relax in the Brukner Nature Center Tree-top Bird Vista as participants identify and count the species attracted to the feeders. The Great Backyard Bird Count is a national survey of birds across North America coordinated by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. Birders all across the country count species seen this weekend. The data collected creates a snapshot of bird populations and can be used to determine declines in populations, changes in distribution and trends in species survival. This program is coordinated by the Brukner Bird Club and free with admission.

• NIGHT HIKE: Brukner Nature Center will have a Night Hike, “First Roll Call,” at 7 p.m. Every month BNC naturalists plan a nighttime adventure in to the Brukner woodlands. Late winter in southern Ohio is the best opportunity to witness early breeders. Great horned owls have inhabited nests and begun to lay eggs. Eastern screech-owls and barred owls are calling for their mates to begin the nesting season. Come dressed for a family-friendly hike as participants discover the first signs of wildlife activity as the last month of winter arrives. Free and open to the public.


• PUBLIC STAR GAZE: Join the Stillwater Stargazers and explore the starry night sky at 8 p.m. at Brukner Nature Center. Members will have their telescopes set up to answer questions. This program is free and open to the public, following the night hike.

• APPRAISAL FAIR: Local auctioneer Bob Honeyman will be appraising objects from 2-4 p.m. at Hoffman United Methodist Church, 201 S. Main St., West Milton, in the activity center. Participants can bring those items they have been wondering about, their value or maybe even what they are. This is open to the public and there is no charge to attend. There will be a $5 fee for every two items to be appraised. Even it you do not have any items to be appraised, the public is invited to view. All proceeds go to the Methodist Women to be used for various mission projects.

* BRASS BAND: The Ohio Valley British Brass Band will perform at 7 p.m. at Troy First Presbyterian Church.This concert has been rescheduled from December’s planned performance being cancelled due to weather. According to Mike Gallehue, the Ohio Valley British Brass Band will replace the Christmas pieces and provide an enjoyable evening filled with various pieces of music.

• GUEST SPEAKER: Raymond Robb will discuss the history of in-flight refueling, from its primitive beginnings in the 1920s to the present day, with a brief look at its future at 7 p.m. at WACO Museum, 1865 South County Road 25-A, Troy. His presentation will include a slide show depicting the development of in-flight refueling techniques as well as the variety of aircraft adapted for such operations over the last 90 years. The event is free and open to the public as part of WACO’s Adult Lecture Series.
