MIAMI COUNTY — RadioShack and Staples stores in Troy will remain open while the future of the Piqua RadioShack is undetermined after both chain stores announced massive closures earlier this month.
RadioShack plans on closing 1,100 stores, which is approximately 20 percent of its current locations, after hundreds of the locations were reportedly under performing and forecasted to lose money this year.
Troy RadioShack, 1845 W. Main St., will remain open, a manager at the store stated.
Meanwhile, Piqua RadioShack, 1272 E. Ash St., remained open, but a manager at the store said he was unsure how the location would be affected. He said it was “undetermined” if the Piqua store would be closed and referred additional questions to corporate offices.
A spokesperson from RadioShack’s media relations department at company headquarters said the company is not releasing a complete listing of all store closings at this time.
“However, RadioShack will maintain market coverage as part of this plan, with more than 4,000 U.S. stores in the RadioShack footprint,” the company spokesperson said. “We will have information to share in the future.”
Like RadioShack, it was also announced recently that Staples will soon be closing 225 stores in North America.
The Staples store in Troy, 1761 W. Main St., will not be one of those locations anticipated to be closed, a manager working at the store said this week.
