TROY — The horticulture hall at the Miami County Fair will be lit up this year.

When members of the Miami County Council of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (O.A.G.C.) hold their annual flower show at the Miami County Fairgrounds, two longtime exhibitors will be missed. Bill McKinney of Covington with his prize-winning dahlias and Gene Davis of Tipp City with his prize-winning roses both passed away this year.

Memorial donations in honor of both men from the Miami County Council of the O.A.G.C. were given to the fair board to help pay for new and improved lighting in the horticulture hall at the fairgrounds, where the show is held.

The theme this year is “Crazy Days of Summer.” There are two shows, the first on Saturday and the second on Tuesday. Residents of Miami County are eligible to enter; membership in a garden club is not required and there are no entry fees or pre-registration. However, admission to the Miami County Fair is necessary. Fair entry is $5 per day, or a season pass may be purchased at the secretary’s office for $20. There is a junior division for participants through age 17.

Entries for the first show on Saturday will be accepted beginning at 7:30 a.m. and must be in place by 10:15 a.m. Entries for the second show on Tuesday will be accepted beginning at 7:30 a.m. that day and must be in place by 10:15 a.m. Complete rules, regulations, entry categories and details are described on pages 44-46 of the Miami County Fair premium list, available at the secretary’s office at the fairgrounds, or online at http://www.miamicountyohiofair.com/fairBook.htm.

There are five garden clubs in the Miami County Council of O.A.G.C.: Blooming Betsys, Elizabeth Twp., Troy; Alpha and Covington Garden Clubs of Covington; Four Seasons and Green Leaf Garden Clubs of Piqua.

The show is sponsored by Andy’s Garden Center of Troy and Piqua.

Co-chairs for this year’s event are Sandy Wolf (773-4749) and Kay McKinney (473-2767). Either of them may be contacted with questions about the show, the rules, procedures or the Miami County Council of Garden Clubs.
