Memorial Day events planned
FLETCHER — This Memorial Day weekend, Fletcher United Methodist Church invites the community to participate in a series of events.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, the “Caring for Carrie” 5K Run/Walk will kick off. Check-in and registration for that event will start at 8 a.m.
A traditional worship service will be held Sunday, May 29, at 8:15 a.m. with a contemporary worship service to begin at 10:45 a.m. Carnival at the Park will follow from 4-7 p.m.
On Monday, May 30, the church will hold a Memorial Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Summer worship schedule to begin
TROY — First Lutheran Church begins their summer worship schedule this week. Service will be at 9:30 a.m. JAM (Jesus and Me) Kids will be teaching the little ones the story of, “Jesus Calms the Storm,” during the 9:30 a.m. service in the church lobby. Mark Condy, will be a guest and will share his message, “Waiting For God.”
The church is currently collecting nonperishable food items for First Place Food Pantry. FLC will also be selling strawberry cupcakes during the 2016 Strawberry Festival.
Vacation Bible School will be July 10–14, from 5:30-8 p.m. This year’s theme is Cave Quest: Following Jesus the Light of the World. Register for VBS at the church or online at www.flctroy-nalc.org.
Political Divisions Explored at Lifetree Café
TROY — Practical ways to unite a divided country will be explored at Lifetree Café at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31. Because of the holiday, the group will meet on this Tuesday instead of Monday. It will go back to Mondays on June 6.
The program, titled “Can This Union Be Saved: A Marriage Counselor’s Advice for Our Divided Country,” features a filmed interview with Denny Howard, a marriage counselor who shares how the strategies employed to help estranged couples may work with those who have divergent political views.
During the program, participants will have the opportunity to share their political views while establishing common ground with people holding opposing views. This program is free and there are beverages and snacks.
Lifetree Café is located inside St John’s United Church of Christ, 130 S. Walnut St., Troy. Use the Canal Street door for entrance to the Café and the Walnut Street ramp for the handicapped entrance.

57th annual Memorial Day luncheon set
CASSTOWN — On Monday, May 30, Casstown United Methodist Church will host their 57th annual Memorial Day luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A variety of sandwiches, including barbecued pork, shredded chicken, ham and hot dogs will be available, as well as assorted salads and desserts. All items will be sold a la carte.
The building is handicapped accessible and carry-out is available. The church is located at 102 Center St., Casstown, on the corner of Center and Washington Streets.
Grandma’s Kitchen to close two days
WEST MILTON — Grandma’s Kitchen at Hoffman United Methodist Church in West Milton will be closed Wednesday, June 1, for maintenance to the activity center and surrounding areas. It will also be closed on Wednesday, July 6, due to the Fourth of July holiday. Otherwise, the regular serving hours are 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Strawberry pancake breakfast set
TROY — A Strawberry Pancake Breakfast will be held by the Troy United Methodist Women from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, June 4.
Delicious pancakes, sausage, and fresh strawberries will be served at the First Place Christian Center, 16 W. Franklin St., Troy.
A free will offering is suggested with the proceeds used to fund local missions.
Gibbon Singers to perform
TROY — Troy Freewill Baptist Church will have the Gibbon Singers at their 11 a.m. service on Sunday, June 5. The public is welcome to attend.

Registration opens for Vacation Bible School
COVINGTON — Stillwater Community Church is offering Vacation Bible School from 9-11:20 a.m. on June 6-10. This year’s theme is “Bible Times.” Again this year the VBS Bible Story Teacher is Steve Schenk, AWANA Director.

Church to host drama camp
TROY — The First United Methodist Church will once again hold a Drama Camp the week of June 13-17.
The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at First Place Christian Center, 16 W. Franklin St., Troy.
The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, in the Church Sanctuary.
Come discover new drama games, new stories, new songs and new friends. The camp is for anyone who has completed grades K-6. Registration forms are available at the church or may be downloaded on the church website, www.troyfumc.org.
