WEST MILTON — Just in time for summer, the Village of West Milton has added another opportunity for outdoor fun to one of its parks.
Today at 6 p.m., the West Milton Community Park Board is celebrating the grand opening of its new nine hole course located in Municipal Park.
“We will be having some disc contests and will include prizes, such as free discs,” Municipal Manager Matt Kline said. There will also be refreshments, like ice cream and kettle corn, and a free movie night.
Disc golf courses have been popping up in other Miami County parks in recent years. This new course has been in the works for about a year, Councilman Scott Fogle said.
The equipment was installed last summer, but now that the signs for the course have arrived, the parks board decided it was time for a grand opening,
“It goes from the top of the hill where the first hole starts, all the way to the back corner of the park, and back to the top of the hill where the last hole finishes,” Fogle said.
Disc golf course is a great option for low-cost outdoor fun, he said. Players bring their own discs to play, which can be found Wertz Hardware, he added.
“It’s great because it’s inexpensive,” Fogle said. “And it’s a lot of fun.”
Following the opening of the course, the parks board will host a free movie night in the park at 9.m. The evening’s entertainment will be Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur.”
This is the second movie night in the park. The first one, held last fall, was a big hit, Fogle said, and drew about 60 people.
