TROY — Warren Davidson has won the Republican nomination for the congressional seat vacated by former Speaker of the House John Boehner.
Davidson, a resident of Troy, was one of 15 Republican candidates in the hotly contested race for Ohio’s 8th Congressional District.
A statement on Davidson’s Facebook page read, “Warren thanks family, friends, and above all God for this victory. One small step forward.”
He will go on to a special election in June to fill the remainder of Boehner’s term.
Davidson served as an Army Ranger and works in manufacturing.
“We need to send to Washington a strong hand. We need a conservative president, we need a conservative Congress, and we need to insist that the people that go there do what we sent them there to do,” he told voters at a meet the candidates event in Troy last month.
State Senator Bill Beagle, who was closest in the polls, issued a statement congratulating Davidson.
“This was a hard fought election and I am deeply grateful for the tremendous support I received from families, small business owners and community leaders across the 8th Congressional District,” Beagle said. “I congratulate Warren Davidson on his victory tonight.”
