Summer program has another successful year

To the Editor:

Once again, the community of Troy has stepped up to make the Summer Lunch Buddies program at the Troy Rec a great success! This program pairs elementary students with teen and adult mentors to provide lunch and one-on-one reading time each summer to help prevent the “summer slide.” We are so thankful for the many volunteers that make this program run smoothly. Many of these people come back every year to support this important effort.

In addition, we must thank the Paul G. Duke Foundation and the Troy Foundation for their continued support. Without them, there is no way this program could continue. Many thanks are also due the Summer Lunch Partnership which provided lunches each day for our students and volunteers. We are blessed to live in a community that values children. The following local businesses, individuals or groups have also contributed to keep Summer Lunch Buddies going strong: Meijer, Kings Island, Mercer Group Inc, Oakley Chiropractic, Troy Carstar, Robinson Fund of The Troy Foundation, KSM Metal Fabrication, Dave’s Services, Upper Valley Hearing and Balance, Newport Aquarium, VFW of Ohio Charities/Troy Fish and Game, Mark Bentley DDS, William and Boss Jewelers, Hobart/Piqua Filler Metals Operations, Frickers, Troy Elks Lodge No. 883, Walmart, Kent and Shawn Frauenberger, Peak Foods, Troy Land Development, VFW/Troy Fish and Game, Primary Eye Care Associates, BW3, Winans, and Victoria Theatre.

According to parent and volunteer feedback, the Summer Lunch Buddies program is making a real difference for the children that attend. We appreciate all of the contributions that make it possible for us to offer this program year after year. Thank you for making Troy a great place for kids!
