DAYTON/LEXINGTON — Tippecanoe’s Kaili Titley knows how to start a career.
The Red Devil freshman captured a regional championship Saturday afternoon at the Division II regional track and field meet at Welcome Stadium, winning the 800 and grabbing a spot in a second event at next week’s state meet.
Titley won the 800 in a time of 2:19.36, and teammate Makenzie Dietz narrowly missed qualifying, as well, finishing fifth in 2:22.84. Both already qualified by finishing second in the 4×800 relay on Thursday.
Katie Taylor, another member of that 4×800 team, also finished fifth in the 1,600 (5:20.01). The 4×200 team of Lunden Mason, Sammie Rowland, Tori Livesay and Taylor Prall finished sixth (1:49.88), as did the 4×400 team of Dietz, Titley, Prall and Rowland (4:04.25). Abbi Halsey was ninth in the 3,200 (12:19.56) and Jackie Bashore was 11th in the pole vault (8-6).
Milton-Union sophomore Beyonce Bobbitt, who qualified for state as a freshman last season and who already punched her ticket in the discus this season on Thursday, was the runner-up in the shot put on Saturday, throwing 38-1.5 to qualify in a second event this season.
Teammate Sarah Motz finished 14th in the pole vault (8-0). And on the boys side at Lexington High School, sophomore Shannon Milnickel finished 11th in 4:39.78.
