TROY — The battle atop the leaderboard couldn’t have been closer.
But in the end, Ryan Groff was able to hold off Troy Moore to claim the victory in the championship flight at the Miami Shores Club Championship on Saturday and Sunday, holding on to win by one stroke.
Groff shot 70-72—142, while Moore shot 71-72—143 — that one stroke in the opening round proving to be the only difference. Andy Pittenger shot 76-76—152 and Justin Weber shot 75-77—152 to settle for a tie for third.
Tom Stickrod shot the tournament’s low total in the super seniors flight, posting an opening-round 66 and finishing with 66-73—139 to win. Jim Hoover also broke into the 60s on the first day, shooting 69-80—149 to finish second. Jeff Poettinger was third with 72-78—150, Jim Waters was fourth with 78-75—153 and Roger Luring (77-78), Brent Adkins (80-75) and Jim Sarich (77-78) were tied for fifth with 155.
In the seniors flight, John Mutschler won with 78-75—153 and Chris Boehringer was second with 79-74—153.
In the first flight, Ty Nimer won with 74-75—149 and Jim Rohr was second with 76-77—153.
In the second flight, Brian Jackson won with 82-86—168 and Dwight Hughes was second with 169.
